In a groundbreaking move towards enhancing Qatar's education landscape, a significant partnership has been forged between the Public Works 'Ashghal' and Urbacon Trading and Contracting Company. This partnership, in accordance with Law No. (12) of 2022 on Regulating Partnership between Public and Private Sectors, issued by H.H. the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, signals a pivotal moment in the country's journey towards educational excellence.
The signing ceremony, graced by esteemed dignitaries including H.E. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Hamad Bin Qassim Al-Thani, Minister of Commerce and Industry, and H.E. Buthaina Bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi, Minister of Education and Higher Education, marked the commencement of the construction of the second package of the Qatar Schools Development Programme. This ambitious endeavor, encompassing 14 schools, epitomizes Qatar's commitment to fostering collaboration between the public and private sectors for sustainable development.
Aligned with the Third National Development Strategy 2030-2024 and Qatar National Vision 2030, the project aims to bolster the private sector's involvement across various economic domains, thereby propelling the nation towards its long-term aspirations. Ashghal's proactive role in overseeing the construction of the first package of eight schools through Public-Private Partnerships underscores the significance of leveraging such partnerships for infrastructure development and service provision.
Integral to this initiative is the incorporation of cutting-edge construction methodologies, including 3D printing technology and modular building using prefabricated structures. Eng. Jaralla Mohammed Al Marri, Manager of Buildings Projects Department, emphasized Ashghal's commitment to embracing modern technology to enhance efficiency and sustainability in line with the Third National Development Strategy.
The comprehensive scope of the project encompasses the construction of primary, preparatory, secondary, and specialized science and technology schools, catering to over 10,000 students. Scheduled for operationalization in the academic year 2025-2026, these schools are poised to set new benchmarks in educational infrastructure excellence.
Moreover, the project underscores a holistic approach to facility design, incorporating state-of-the-art educational amenities such as laboratories, sports facilities, libraries, and outdoor spaces. Eng. Mohammed Masoud Al Marri, Chairman of Ashghal's PPP Committee, reiterated the executing company's responsibility in designing, building, and maintaining the schools for 25 years, with a focus on safety and maintenance.
